So, I guess this is considered social media. I assume when and if I go off the deep end they will look at this fledgling blog thing as well as Facebook etc. and cherry pick the things which would have predicted my descent into madness. I’m sure the neighbors will say ‘he always seemed a little off, a little distant’ or ‘didn’t really know him that well’ or ‘he seemed a little creepy’. The family probably saying for a long time he always seemed depressed, especially after he retired. They’d all be right I guess.
Trying to take a break from Facebook. I get enraged by the comments. Defending the killing of that woman. The dismantling of the government; the illegalities, the unconstitutional actions; the doing away with checks and balances. The grossly unqualified people running departments and sitting on the bench whose only mandate is unquestioned loyalty to the leader. Fascism. All of this was telegraphed years ago and laid out in the project 2025 blueprint. ‘Might makes right’ vs. ‘the rule of law.’
My father and his brothers and millions of Americans fought WWII to defeat fascism and to try to make the world safer for democracies and not live under the boot of authoritarianism.
It is said that history repeats, or at least rhymes. Each cycle about the length of a human life 80 years give or take culminating in an upheaval or major shift in collective thinking. 1776, 1865, 1940’s; and here we are in the late 2020’s. The Fourth Turning is a good read outlining this.
I worked for the Federal government from 2012 until recently. It became clear to anyone paying attention that the things the administration was doing was very similar to the steps taken by the Nazi party in pre war Germany. I was conflicted about working for a government on that path. The news each day seems to bring us closer to ……. something. Gestapo. NATO? Venezuela, Greenland, Canada?, Mexico?; “king of the world ma”
I loved this country. The promise of the future that the founders gave us with the constitution. Laying out the reasons in the Declaration. The reliance on the principles of natural law. The deeply held belief in a guiding hand of deity. It’s not likely that Franklin actually said “a republic, if you can keep it” when asked what they had given us. But the said truth is we didn’t keep it. We allowed fascism to take hold. And half of America either wants this or is too stupid to know the difference. It will take generations, if ever, to be land of the free again.
I feel like there was more I should have done.
